GCL’s parent, GCB Bank, is Ghana’s first indigenous bank, with over 65 years’ experience and the widest footprint, with presence in every region of the country. As part of its strategic direction and quest to remain the dominant force in Ghana’s banking industry, GCB Bank repositioned its former subsidiary, Development Finance & Holdings Ltd., into a full-service investment banking arm, GCB Capital Ltd (GCL) in November 2018.

Our History
We trace our roots to the very foundation of our parent company in 1953, in the Gold Coast era, where our heritage firm, formerly called the Bank of the Gold Coast, was established with a core mandate to provide banking services to indigenous businesses. After Ghana gained independence, the Bank renewed its mandate and changed its name to Ghana Commercial Bank Ltd.
In 2018, after more than sixty years of growth, and evolution into GCB Bank PLC, an inactive subsidiary called Development Finance and Holdings Limited was spun off and incorporated as GCB Securities Ltd as the investment banking arm of the Bank, in pursuit of the Bank’s quest to remain the dominant force in Ghana’s banking industry.
GCB Securities Ltd was renamed GCB Capital Limited in August 2020 to provide a full suite of investment banking services with principal activities including:
- Fund management
- Financial advisory and capital market services
- Proprietary debt and equity investing
- Real estate finance solutions
- Long-term financing through debt, equity and hybrid structures.
